Restaurant price transparency

Discover & place detail
Browse your city in list or map view. Every restaurant card carries an affordability badge, the average gap from fair, and a community worth-it score. Save the places you love and filter by what you eat.
Community scores are Flip the Menu's own affordability ratings — not Yelp or Google ratings.
The fair-price engine
Pick a dish and watch the estimate, badge, and confidence shift. Every fair price is built bottom-up from ingredients, labor, overhead, and margin — with a confidence label so the uncertainty is always visible.
Estimates are not a restaurant's actual costs. Restaurants cannot pay to change fair-price estimates, confidence labels, or community ratings.

Cook at home
Search any dish. If a recipe exists, it opens; if not, Flip the Menu generates one. Scale servings and the ingredient costs and price estimate scale with you. A nutrition card shows calories, macros, confidence, and coverage.
These are Flip the Menu recipe interpretations, not a restaurant's official recipe.

Take or upload a photo of any menu. Flip the Menu reads the dish names, descriptions, prices, and sections — then tapping a dish resolves or generates a recipe and opens it.

Community affordability
After a meal, rate the value — not stars. Those ratings power Flip the Menu's own affordability layer.

Activity & recap
Your activity tab tracks estimated savings, places you've rated, and recipes you've saved — with achievement progress and a year-end recap to look back on.
Savings are estimates based on fair-price and at-home cost models, not exact figures.
Methodology & trust
We build each estimate from the recipe behind a dish — ingredients, labor, and overhead — then sanity-check it against restaurant cost conventions. The same ingredient data powers the cook-at-home recipe.
We model ingredients, not one blanket markup across a whole menu.
We prefer wholesale costs and fall back to retail where coverage is thin.
Every estimate carries a Low, Medium, or High label. Low uses a calm grey — never alarm-red.
We don't know a restaurant's exact rent, wages, sourcing, or recipe.
Estimates are one signal, not a verdict. Restaurants cannot pay to change fair-price estimates or community affordability ratings.
FAQ

They're estimates, not measurements. We use recipe structure, ingredient data, market pricing, regional labor assumptions, and a confidence score on every dish.
It's the share of diners who said a dish was worth what they paid. It's a community signal about value, separate from the fair-price estimate.
