Restaurant price transparency

Know what your meal is really worth.

Flip the Menu finds fair-priced restaurants, shows dish-level value, and helps you cook — or remix — the same dish at home. Honest estimates, not a verdict.

The fair-price engine

This is what your menu has been hiding.

Pick a dish and watch the estimate, badge, and confidence shift. Every fair price is built bottom-up from ingredients, labor, overhead, and margin — with a confidence label so the uncertainty is always visible.

Estimates are not a restaurant's actual costs. Restaurants cannot pay to change fair-price estimates, confidence labels, or community ratings.

Tap a dish to understand it — or cook it at home.

Scan a menu

Snap the menu. Understand the dishes.

Take or upload a photo of any menu. Flip the Menu reads the dish names, descriptions, prices, and sections — then tapping a dish resolves or generates a recipe and opens it.

  • Scan, take, or upload a menu photo
  • Extracts dishes, prices, and sections
  • Every detected dish links straight to a recipe you can cook

Shop the ingredients

From recipe to cart.

Add a recipe's ingredients to your list, grouped by dish, then price them with a grocery partner.

WalmartFallback

Walmart.com grocery search as a wide fallback when Kroger isn't available.

Universal listAnywhere

A clean, shareable list that works in any region or store — check off and go.

AmazonPlanned

Amazon shopping is planned and not connected yet.

Flip the Menu may earn a commission from grocery partner links. That keeps the app free for diners. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Community affordability

A community that keeps it honest.

After a meal, rate the value — not stars. Those ratings power Flip the Menu's own affordability layer.

Rate the value, in four taps

  1. 1What did you order?
  2. 2Was each dish worth it?
  3. 3Worse, same, or better than your last spot?
  4. 4Add a note or photo

Completing a rating earns points toward your year-end recap.

Activity & recap

Watch the value add up.

Your activity tab tracks estimated savings, places you've rated, and recipes you've saved — with achievement progress and a year-end recap to look back on.

  • Monthly and yearly savings estimates with a savings ring
  • Timeline of rated places, saved recipes, and badges
  • Year-end recap teaser

Savings are estimates based on fair-price and at-home cost models, not exact figures.

Methodology & trust

Transparent estimates, with confidence.

We build each estimate from the recipe behind a dish — ingredients, labor, and overhead — then sanity-check it against restaurant cost conventions. The same ingredient data powers the cook-at-home recipe.

The recipe is the foundation

We model ingredients, not one blanket markup across a whole menu.

Wholesale, then retail

We prefer wholesale costs and fall back to retail where coverage is thin.

Confidence is always visible

Every estimate carries a Low, Medium, or High label. Low uses a calm grey — never alarm-red.

What we don't claim to know

We don't know a restaurant's exact rent, wages, sourcing, or recipe.

Estimates are one signal, not a verdict. Restaurants cannot pay to change fair-price estimates or community affordability ratings.

FAQ

Questions you might have.

Is this fair to restaurants?

Yes. We celebrate fairly priced places, show uncertainty clearly, and never use words like "overpriced." Claimed restaurant context is planned so operators can explain sourcing and wages.

How accurate are the price estimates?

They're estimates, not measurements. We use recipe structure, ingredient data, market pricing, regional labor assumptions, and a confidence score on every dish.

What is a worth-it score?

It's the share of diners who said a dish was worth what they paid. It's a community signal about value, separate from the fair-price estimate.

Can restaurants pay to change their rating?

No. Restaurants cannot pay to change fair-price estimates, confidence labels, rankings, or community affordability ratings.

How does Flip the Menu make money?
